it’s not just a tattoo, it’s a way of life

During the trash fire year of 2016 (in case generations to come don’t remember, this was the year Trump was elected), I was working for one of those many companies that use subculture as a guise to make more money and was feeling highly depleted. I was done cleaning up messes for a company that was billing out $150 to $200 an hour while I was only making $20 myself. I could no longer be told I was of lesser value because I wasn’t a CPA while I was the one who was teaching the CPAs how to use rudimentary accounting software. I couldn’t have one more person hand me a paper ledger or a 10-key and tell me this was how their systems had to be done.

Much like those ancient accounting systems, something had to give and I was so broke at the time, I had nothing more to lose. I scraped together what I could, took the inspiration from the women rising up in resistance to a patriarchal system and lept into finally creating my own business—one on my terms that would focus on individualized, kind, modern and efficient strategies to help a large gamut of humans.

The second I made that terrifying leap I realized how alright things would be—I had so much experience behind me and something many folks with years of schooling don’t have—practical application. Not just practical application at one industry either but from bike shops, to bars & coffee shops, metal shops, real estate agencies, corporate finance, insurance, filmmakers, writers, musicians, artists and even small custom pinatas shops. I know what it’s like to have nothing in my bank account for days on end and then an influx that needs to be strategically disbursed. I know what it’s like to not get paid by clients and what it’s like to need systems in place to help me collect my funds. I know what it’s like to wake up and suddenly have a growing business on my hands.
